This is the design, display and publication information for the story "Assault on the Fortress of Scrolls" by David Arnold.

Story

Setup

An 8,000 year old fortress, embedded in the side of a mountain, surrounded by desert, holds hundreds of thousands of scrolls, books and parchments. This ancient library's keeper is Larion. He and his men guard the fortress from the desires of the un-honourable.

Today, one of those un-honourable steps forth. The Captain Arcadon and his army of mercenaries seek to steal from the Fortress of Scrolls.

Setting

This story takes place in the future, possibly after an apocalypse or on a colony world. The Fortress is a large structure, made of rock and metal, embedded into a mountain, surrounded by open desert. The Fortress is guarded by old - once mighty - soldiers, stationed at the Fortress as their retirement. Outside is the army of Arcadon, prepared to attack.

The Story

- Main Image 1:

Arcadon and his army arrive, 2 miles away from the fortress.

- Sub Image 2:

Larion looks out of a window at the advancing enemy.

- Sub Image 2:

Arcadon watches with pleasure as his troops attack.

- Main Image 2:

Arcadon's army begins it's attack, tanks and heavy troops fire on the front of the fortress. The Fortresses defence cannons fire back.

- Main Image3:

Arcadon's troops engage Larion's at the front gate of the fortress.

- Sub Image 3:

Arcadon's Commando troops enter a small tunnel at the site of the mountain.

- Main Image 4:

Arcadon's and Larion's troops at the peek of battle.

- Sub Image 4:

The Commandos enter the power room of the fortress and place explosives onto a large reactor.

- Sub Image 5:

Arcadon spots Larion across the battlefield.

- Main Image 5: 

The power reactor explodes.

- Sub Image 6: 

Arcadon and Larion meet, eye to eye.

- Sub Image 7:

Arcadon and Larion fight with swords and pistols.

- Main Image 6:

Larion kills Arcadon.

Main Image 7:

- Larion looks at the Fortress of Scrolls as it burns.
